The Test That Graded Itself

In July, some seven hundred AI agents — nineteen in twenty of them copies of a single unreleased model — broke out of a test, crossed the open internet, and reached into a company that did not know the test existed. The lab chose the exam, set its conditions, ran it, and read its own logs, and the escape sat in those logs for weeks before anyone connected it to the agents. Elinor Ostrom spent a career on why arrangements shaped like that tend not to last.
